Beat The Recession Saving You Money!

Free Food for the Frugal Life

March 28, 2009

These days, there isn’t a shortage of people telling you about the recession-that prices are going up while your salary isn’t. Just because you may not have as much money as you’d like, that doesn’t mean you have to give up on the food you enjoy.

Think birthday clubs are just for kids? Not anymore! Plenty of businesses are catering to their adult customers, too, and they want to treat them on their birthdays. There are many businesses who give coupons for things like hamburgers, sub sandwiches, and whole meals to those who sign up.

Often, all it takes is a simple sign up online, and don’t forget to tell them your birthday. Places like Baskin Robbins, Red Robin’s, Firehouse Subs, Captain D’s, and many more will send you a coupon right in your inbox for free food. All you have to do is go to a restaurant’s website and sign up. You’ll receive coupons from time to time, too. Many of these restaurants often give you something free—just for signing up!

There are a lot of people who frequent these businesses and often overlook these offers for free food, but don’t be one of these people and let it go to waste. All it takes is a little time. There’s another way to get free food, and that’s through reward programs that offer something new on a monthly basis.

All that’s required is the completion of a quick survey and printing the coupon. Gas stations like Race Trac and Quick Trip have offered these reward programs. Sign up only takes a few minutes, and you get something free just for signing up! Who can beat that?

Items such as cold fountain drinks, taquitos, warm hot dogs, and more are a mere click of the mouse away. The prospect of suddenly having less money may be new and even frightening to some people, but that doesn’t mean you have to panic. Instead, you have to get creative. There are many ways to still eat well and put food on the table for your family. If you don’t know what to eat for lunch or find yourself on the road and suddenly hungry, consider making a stop at your local Costco or Sam’s Club.

While you need a membership card to get in, you can often enter with a free guest pass which can be found online or in the store’s sale paper. Once inside, you will find yourself amongst a variety of people who are more than happy to give you a free sample of their product. The best time to go is early afternoon on Saturdays when there are the most tables for samples. The food is different every time and prepared in front of you. There should be more than enough tables to satiate your hunger until dinnertime. Also, stay on the lookout for announcements for free food from restaurants and new businesses.

Newspapers, television commercials, and the internet are some of the best places to start your search. Fast food restaurants usually like to giveaway free food to the public when they introduce a new product. You don’t have to let the recession get you down. With a little creativity, you can still eat what you want without having to pay more.
