Holiday Gift Ideas Under $50, Part 3 – Men…
December 8, 2008Earlier this week, I offered you some budget-conscious gift ideas for women and kids during the holidays. Today, it’s the men we’re treating.
As a woman, I think shopping for men is always enjoyable and interesting – maybe because it requires exploring unknown department store territory, but I think there seems to be a lot of specialty items for men. From a nice hat or scarf, to a shiny new set of golf clubs, there’s plenty of items to pick from for the man in your life. And of course, the trick this year might be trying to pick out a nice gift that doesn’t break the bank.
Well, we’ve got some ideas. Hope they help!
Wine Club
With a wine-of-the-month membership, your dad or husband or brother will get the latest edition of a nice red or white (or both) delivered to his door on a monthly basis. You can split this gift with another family member or friend and you’ll find that it’s an affordable and memorable gift that will be appreciated by any wine lover in your family. And if it’s a gift for your husband/boyfriend, there’s an obvious perk in that you’ll get in on the tastings, too!
Magazine Subscription
I love giving out magazine subscriptions as gifts, because I devour magazines anywhere I go. It’s also a fabulous gift to give out if you’re on a budget, with most subscriptions running less than $50. You can buy a golf magazine for a golf lover, a running magazine for a runner…you get the picture.
Lessons/Classes
My brother used to be quite the artist. He’d draw all day and win contests at school back when we were younger. As the years passed, his art classes had slipped So, I decided to get him some oil painting classes as a gift one year – and yes, if you sign up at a community college, those classes will not cost more than 50 bucks.
Community colleges usually have excellent instructors and long or short term courses, so if you decide to buy a gift of learning, they’ll really get an in-depth course on their area of interest. You’d be very surprised at the wide variety of classes there are available at your local college.
Of course, there’s probably no way to really deliver this course, since you’ll want the recipient to choose their own schedule. So, perhaps just create a card/coupon with the hobby on the front, explaining what they just received.
