Beat The Recession Saving You Money!

Save Money with All-Inclusive Vacation Packages

April 20, 2009

Even during trying economic times, I always try to put a portion of each paycheck away into my travel fund – a savings account I set up just for vacations. But with the price of airfare, hotels and every day expenses skyrocketing worldwide, those dollars are not stretching as far as they used to. It’s hard to budget for a trip when your daily expenses per day depend on so many external factors, like the exchange rate (if traveling internationally) or inflation. I’d like to be able to stick to a set budget, so I can manage my savings in the months leading up to the vacation so I don’t end up in debt when I return. Vacations should be relaxing, not stressful!

What exactly is an “All-Inclusive” vacation, anyway?
I’m drawn to the concept of a fixed price vacation package, since I’d know exactly how much my trip will cost me beforehand, and I can pay for the entire trip up front. However, I’ve never booked a vacation package like this, so I did a little research. The concept of the all-inclusive resort began in the 1950′s with Club Med. There are now countless resorts established under the same principle. The resorts cater to every different type of traveler – from single vacationers to large families – and they have activities to match each group. Your room, meals, drinks, and some entertainment and activities are included in the price you pay up front. Some packages also include airfare and local transport to and from the resort.

The idea is that you can simply relax and enjoy your vacation without having to worry about how much you’re spending on each meal or drink. And it’s quite an appealing idea when sticker shock has us all dreading the bill at the end of the evening! It’s important to know exactly what is included in your package before comitting to it. Research your transportation. What is included in the cost? Does your fee cover a direct flight and transport between the airport and resort? If not, you’ll need to add these costs to your budget. Research the accomodations. What type of room do you get? Can you see pictures of the room online? Reseach the incidentals. What type of food and beverages are NOT included in the package? Do you get three meals per day and unlimited beverages? What types of activities are included in the cost – and which activities offered will cost extra? If you think the package includes everything you will need for your stay, it’s probably a great deal!

Now that you know what to look for, start here for some amazing deals on Carribean Resort Packages and you’ll be sipping free Mai Tai’s in the sun in no time flat!
