Beat The Recession Saving You Money!

Save Money on your Home Phone

April 17, 2009

If you have been using and paying for home telephone service for the past ten years, then you are no stranger to the phenomenon of skyrocketing home telephone utility bills. Just since 2004, certain charges like call waiting are up 86% as the telephone companies try to cushion the loss of a large part of their customer base to cell phone service only.
You’re often paying far too much in the long run for these phone lines. How can you save money and still keep that land line? Personally, it’s been a struggle to justify paying for a land line when the price tag keeps getting bigger, even though I like the thought of keeping a direct line at home to dial out from in case of emergency.

So how do you keep that land line and still save money?

* Cancel long-distance service. Since most domestic cellular providers don’t charge you any different to call Florida than they do California, use your cell for long distance and your home for local and emergency calls only. This should lower your home phone bill by 25-50% right off the bat.

* Bundle the cost of your phone line into a deal that includes your cable TV and internet access. Make sure your costs for using this phone line are comparable to your local telephone utilities and that you aren’t going to be charged hidden costs associated with dialing locally or long distance.

* Bundle home phone service into your cellular phone bill. Most cellular providers are now offering home phone service – investigate what your calling rates would be and if you’d be saving money on both bills before you combine the two.

* VoIP Service – which uses an internet connection instead of the traditional phone jacks to connect your calls – may be more affordable than your old phone service. Try looking into a few services, being careful to investigate hidden fees, to see if this is a more affordable option for your home phone needs.

* Corded phones themselves can be quite costly, so check out a discount site and pick up a few deals to keep you in touch with your loved ones. We recommend 101 Phones. 101Phones.com – Get Free Shipping on all Brands of Cordless and Corded Phones!
