Probably one of your biggest monthly expenses comes from either heating or cooling of your house. This also means that it is an area where a lot of money can be saved, too, if you follow some money tips.

If you buy window air conditioning units, it is not a good idea to buy one that is much bigger than what the room size calls for. You can save money by buying the right size. While it will cool the room faster, you will find that an air conditioner that is too large will use much more electricity in cooling that room than is necessary. Also, you want to find an air conditioner than has good energy ratings.

Air conditioning units will work more efficiently if they are not in direct sunlight. This helps them remove heat quickly. A tree can produce shade over it, but be sure to keep plants at a distance from it to allow better air flow. Check the coils to make sure that they are clear of debris such as leaves, dirt, and grass. The easier that air can flow through the coils the better it will cool your home or apartment. It also means that it will take less energy to cool it, too.

Awnings, or trees, can shade some of the house and keep the heating effect of the sun’s rays off of the house. This will enable you to save money in cooling costs and allow you to have some extra toward your summer vacation.
